Traditional Mexican Weaving

In this class one is able to study with two types of looms. The difference between them is: on traditional looms one weaves standing up, these are the older models, with the newer ones the weaving is done sitting down. The type of loom that the student uses depends on the time that shall be spent studying.

The Traditional Mexican Weaving workshop provides the student with the necessary elements for the class.

One is taught to prepare the loom, getting to know its parts with different widths and one learns to prepare the material in the mesh or comb. (This is called warping).

One is given the basic instruction to weave a piece with a pattern or different colors lines, be they in squares or triangles.

The material used is 100% natural sheep´s wool from the ranches. The material goes through three processes in order to be used: a) Shearing, b) Back-combing, c) Spinning.

The blending of the wool to produce different tones of gray, mixing tones of white wool with natural brown depending the desired tone.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 6 pm.
