:: mixed media painting
Instructor: Bonnie Doles January 7 through February 27
Monday & Wednesday, 9am to 12 noon
US$70 per week
Using a variety of material, both traditional and unorthodox, we will explore the exciting possibilities that are revealed through the use of combined medias. Through working in mixed media the artist is exposed to a range of techniques. The focus will be centered on theories covering space, light, form, movement and balance to enhance the students' knowledge and awareness during the process of creating a strong piece.
:: PAPIER-MÂCHÉ MASK-MAKING
Instructor: Tanya Brockelman January 14 through March 5
Monday & Wednesday, 2 pm to 5 pm
US$70 per week

Make new friends–build them yourself! In this class, we will create new characters and expressive faces by building up a papier mâché base and then finish the masks with paint and additional materials such as screws and bolts, string, beads, fabric, feathers, etc. Students may either explore the human facial anatomy as a departure point, or focus on inventing their own fantastic creatures.
No experience necessary.

Tanya Brockelman is a Thai-American artist currently living in San Miguel de Allende. She has had over ten years of experience making masks from a wide range of media including papier mâché, clay, wire, rubber, resin, and found objects.
Some of these masks can be viewed at: www.broccoliworks.com

:: FIGURATIVE COLLAGE
Instructor: Tanya Brockelman January 15 through March 6
Tuesday & Thursday, 2 pm to 5 pm
US$70 per week

We often think of collage as abstract juxtapositions of construction paper, found scraps of material, or random images. But these random scraps and images can become a medium just as fluid as paint or clay, and they can be used to create representational art as well. In Tanya’s class you will develop your own unique collage “palette” of raw materials to assemble images on a two-dimensional surface. Discover strange and wonderful creatures, scenes, or whole new worlds.
Experience in drawing and painting is helpful but not required.

Tanya Brockelman is a Thai-American artist currently living in San Miguel de Allende. She has been working primarily in figurative collage for approximately two years. You may have seen her magazine cutout monsters exhibited here in San Miguel in January, but if you missed them they are available 24/7 at: www.broccoliworks.com
