An Overview of Psychiatry
Instructor: Dr. Michael Eleff
January 26, 28, 30 | 1-3 p.m.
This three-session course offers an accessible, insightful look into the world of modern psychiatry. We’ll begin by exploring psychiatry’s role as a medical specialty and its relationship to other mental health professions. You’ll gain a clear understanding of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment—including how medication and psychotherapy can work together.
We will also examine timely and challenging topics, such as Medical Assistance in Dying and whether it should—or should not—include those with mental illness, viewed through medical, legal, and ethical lenses. Additional discussions will reflect participants’ interests and Dr. Eleff’s decades of experience.
