Frédéric Chopin: The Poet of the Piano
Instructor: Bruce Whiteman
February 2, 4 | 1–3 p.m.
Contemporary reports of Chopin's playing consistently called it poetic, intimate, and dreamlike. He had virtuoso skills but exercised them with a poet's sensibility. His music reflects his poetic nature as well. Almost all of his music is for the piano, and most of it, while often difficult to play, is rarely virtuoso in any ostentatious way. In this course, we will explore Chopin's life and music to discover how he contributed more to the piano repertoire than any other 19th-century composer after Beethoven.
